Meet Brionna Ramsey: Our Talented Intern’s Story

We’ve just started welcoming interns to our design team, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce Brionna, our talented new addition. Brionna hails us from Winthrop University as an Interior Design Major. She also possesses a Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts. She comes to us with a wealth of knowledge, and her own unique perspective. In her own words, Brionna will share a glimpse of herself on the blog, offering insight into her journey and what drives her passion for design.

Brionna, what initially sparked your interest in interior design?

HGTV, even though it shows us a different perspective on this career field. In certain HGTV shows, we don’t see the creativity, tedious process, and collaborations behind the work. The majority of people assume that interior design is just about furnishing a room and picking wall art that goes with it. However, interior designers also measure space in each room, draft floor plans and elevations, make sure all furniture and decor pieces match the space, communicate with clients to get their input and make necessary adjustments on projects, and collaborate with other experts such as architects, engineers, other design teams, and retailers.

Are there any particular design styles or eras that you love the most, and why?

I’ve always loved modern and mid-century design styles. For the longest time, I’ve been obsessed with modern homes, especially modern farmhouses, because they're a perfect mixture of traditional and minimalist design properties that make the home functional yet cozy. In mid-century homes, we see mainly natural wood, bold colors, geometric or organic shapes, clean and sleek lines, and minimalist design. After taking a few art classes, I realized that I like to use a mixture of geometric and organic shapes in my design projects, which is why I am drawn to mid-century design styles. One example of this design style is Dakota’s Johnson Los Angeles home on the Architectural Digest YouTube channel.

Outside of design, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy?

I enjoy reading during my free time and try to go to a quiet area to read on campus. I am currently reading Atomic Habits by James Clear, which is about forming, sticking, and breaking small or big habits.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I would live in Greece! I have never been to Greece, but I have seen so many pictures of the country, and it’s very beautiful!

What TV show are you currently binging?

I am currently watching How to Get Away with Murder on Netflix. It stars Viola Davis, and she plays a lawyer and educator who teaches her students law practices and “how to get away with murder”. She chooses five ambitious students from her class to assist her with real-life law practices, even though they are all involved in a twisted murder plot that changes their lives. I would definitely recommend this show if you love thrillers or solving mysteries.

If you could pick a superpower, what would it be?

Out of all of the superpowers, it would be teleportation. I think it would be cool if I were able to teleport to any place, whether it’s different rooms, stores, cities, states, or countries, at any time.
